Since the launching of our new Omega website this spring, our visibility has increased significantly. People are asking: “I love your new website, so what are you about?”
We are about the most incredible shift in faith and culture in the last five hundred years, because that is the average length of significant paradigm shifts.
We see signs of a demise all around us: younger generations are leaving the church, older generations find the technology culture overwhelming, poverty in the U.S. and around the world is obscured by the lure of money and power, global warming is reaching dire levels. We are on the brink of major events that could be catastrophic or life changing.
But it is not all downhill. While something is dying, something new is being born, but we cannot yet read the signs of this new birth; we do not know what to look for. Teilhard de Chardin was a scientist, a mystic and a prophet. He anticipated many things that we are now living through. He saw the whole of life as a great cosmic flow of energy toward an ultimate fulfillment up ahead. He saw that evolution has direction. Christianity, he claimed, is the one religion that takes materiality and time as significant to the life of God, which means God cannot be a static noun but must be a life-giving verb.
The more I reflect on Teilhard’s deep insights, the more I realize that Christianity was never meant to be another religion but a revelation of what this earthly life has the capacity to become. Christianity is not normative of religion; it is normative of evolution. And we have yet to take hold of our own evolution.
This is the mission of the Omega Center – to help us live into a dynamic God in evolution, to see the rising up of God in evolution, and to realize what a new religion of the earth could mean for every aspect of our lives.
To realize this mission, we need your financial help! In January, we made our website free and available to all to share our vision far and wide. However, to continue to develop our work, we are hoping for your financial support in bi-annual fundraising drives.Your donations allow us to keep our website and all its resources free, to hold our annual conference, to widen our Zoom conversations, and to host webinars and podcasts.
Please consider donating whatever you can afford, knowing that you are giving to a new spiritual vision, a new religion of the earth, that can ignite a new human community bound in love and compassion.
Blessings and peace,
Sr. Ilia Delio, OSF
